Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)

Oxygen is crucial to the proper healing of any wound. Sometimes, a wound may not be receiving the amount of oxygen it needs, inhibiting its ability to heal on its own. HBOT is an advanced wound treatment option that increases the flow of oxygen in the body. During treatment, you will enter a hyperbaric chamber where the air pressure is adjusted while you breathe in 100 percent oxygen. You will remain in the chamber for a short period of time.

HBOT is a non-invasive, painless treatment option. It has demonstrated many advantages toward wound healing, including:

  • Decreasing risk for future amputation when dealing with diabetic leg or foot wounds
  • Helping fight infection and prevent future problems from occurring
  • Increasing oxygen flow to oxygen-starved areas of the body
  • Promoting new skin growth
  • Stimulating cell growth and regeneration to kickstart wound healing
  • Stimulating small blood vessels

Outpatient wound care services

When you first arrive at The Wound Center, you will undergo a thorough evaluation to determine the type of wound you are dealing with and any underlying problems that may be preventing healing. After completing several diagnostic tests, you will meet with one of our wound specialists to develop a wound treatment program tailored to your needs. Our doctors remain on the forefront of research and new innovations in wound care, so your treatment is based on medically proven therapies.

Once your treatment begins, you will visit The Wound Center regularly to receive ongoing wound care. The length of treatment will vary from patient to patient based on their wound and other individual health factors. Our team will educate you on how to properly care for your wound at home between your outpatient visits. Caring for your wound is critical to healing so that it is protected against additional complications, such as infection.

Outpatient wound care is available at The Wound Center Monday through Thursday from 7:30am to 5:30pm. We are closed on Fridays. Outpatient wound services are offered in a separate medical building one block away from the main hospital. To speak with a member of our team about scheduling an evaluation for a chronic wound, you can call us at (478) 274-3730.
